So the creatinine is a bit off and the radiologist cancels your patient’s scan just cause they’re giving some contrast…guess what, the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy is probably close to 0% in patients with GFRs greater than 30.

Acute Kidney Injury in the Emergency Department

Acute kidney injury is defined by any of the following:

  • Increase in serum creatinine by ≥26.52µmol/L (0.3 mg/dL) within 48 hours; or
  • Increase in serum creatinine by ≥1.5 times baseline within seven days; or
  • Urine volume <0.5 mL/kg/h for six hours
