EMKF Teams Up With Makueni County To Enhance Life-Saving Services

The Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation (EMKF) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the County Government of Makueni to strengthen emergency medical care and save lives across the county.

The agreement, signed on July 2, 2025, at the County Headquarters in Wote by Deputy Governor H.E. Lucy Mulili and EMKF Executive Director Dr. Benjamin W. Wachira, marks a significant milestone in the journey toward improved and sustainable emergency healthcare in the county.

“This collaboration is timely and a game changer,” noted Deputy Governor Mulili, commending the strategic partnership. The ceremony was also attended by the County Executive Committee Member for Health Services, Dr. Paul Musila, and other senior county officials.

Under the agreement, EMKF and Makueni County have committed to working together to:

  1. Develop and implement county-specific Emergency Medical Care (EMC) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) plans tailored to local needs and aligned with Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals.
  2. Train healthcare workers in designated emergency care centres and the pre-hospital system to enhance their knowledge and response capacity.
  3. Equip Community Health Workers (CHWs) with essential emergency response skills to strengthen community-level first response.
  4. Improve infrastructure and equipment in county emergency care centres to ensure efficient service delivery.
  5. Establish a centralised 24/7 ambulance dispatch centre to improve coordination and response times for medical emergencies.
  6. Promote evidence-based practices through continuous research, evaluation, and learning.

This new partnership with Makueni County adds to EMKF’s growing footprint in enhancing emergency medical services across the country, with a shared vision of ensuring that every Kenyan has access to timely, effective, and equitable emergency healthcare services.
